Guideline 8.6: Exception to Policy
Procedure Statement
Students requesting to appeal the college’s policies regarding their registration and billing may submit a petition.
Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to provide students a formal process whereby they can request an exception to college policies regarding deadlines, late withdrawals, and tuition/fee waivers.
Overview
Students requesting an exception to policy have the right to petition. The Exception to Policy Petition will be considered by the Exception to Policy Task Force and must have the respective faculty approval for each course. Students will be informed of the Task Force’s decision within approximately 20 business days, and students also have the right to appeal a denied petition to the Vice President of Finance or designated delegate. Late withdrawal petitions must be submitted within 60 calendar days of the end of the term in question.
Types of Petitions
- A late course withdrawal changes a course grade to W after the withdrawal deadline has passed. The class remains on the student’s record, but the GPA is not impacted. A withdrawal petition may be considered when a student can document extenuating circumstances existed.
- A late complete withdrawal with partial refund changes all courses to W’s and may result in a full or partial refund. The classes remain on the student’s record, but the GPA is not impacted. A withdrawal petition may be considered when a student can document extenuating circumstances existed.
- A late drop removes a course from your record resulting in a full refund of the course. This option is only available when a course was never attended. Once a course has been attended, it must remain on the student’s record.
