Current placement information for both reading and math is required for acceptance into any of Anoka Technical College’s diploma and AAS degree programs. In addition, many courses have prerequisites that are based on college-level placement.
After you apply to the college, Enrollment Services will send you an email with detailed information about the different ways you can meet placement requirements. Students who provide documentation of meeting college-level course placement may be exempt from taking any or all portions of the ACCUPLACER. Be sure to review this information or connect with Enrollment Services to discuss your options before scheduling ACCUPLACER testing.
Placement Testing
At Anoka Tech, the ACCUPLACER Assessment is used to evaluate an applicant’s skill levels in reading, writing and math. Although the test is not pass/fail, results determine what course placements are most appropriate for student success. This free, untimed, multiple-choice test is currently offered both on-campus and remotely. See the ACCUPLACER Assessment page for more information.
ACCUPLACER Exemption Criteria
Students may be exempt from taking any or all portions of the ACCUPLACER if they meet their program's placement requirements in another way.
Students who demonstrate readiness to succeed in college with qualifying ACT, MCA or SAT test scores will not be required to take all or part of the ACCUPLACER.
Multiple Measures allows students to meet college-level placement through one or more of the following ways:
- Qualifying ACCUPLACER test scores (NGA/Classic)
- Qualifying ACT, MCA, or SAT test scores
- A combination of qualifying test scores plus a qualifying high school GPA
- Qualifying stand-alone high school GPA
- Guided Self-Placement.
*Anoka Tech is participating in a pilot program for Multiple Measures which was introduced by the Minnesota State system in fall 2021.
Students who have completed a college-level reading-intensive course and/or a college-level math course at another college may be exempt from placement testing. In addition, students who have completed an associate’s or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning may also be exempt.
The college’s enrollment office requires an unofficial college transcript to perform a placement evaluation. Please note that the college will have access to any Minnesota State institution transcripts once a student applies to Anoka Tech.
For an evaluation of transcripts from non-Minnesota State institutions, email a PDF copy of transcript(s) to: enrollmentservices@anokatech.edu
*For students seeking a transfer credit evaluation for courses taken at non-Minnesota State institutions, please note that an official transcript must be requested and sent directly from the previous institution to Anoka Tech.
- ACCUPLACER Reading scores are valid for five years, Math scores are valid for two years, inclusive of the current calendar year.
- ACT, MCA and SAT scores are valid for five years, inclusive of the current calendar year.
- HS GPA must be within 10 years of graduation date. In absence of a transcript, a self-reported GPA may be used.
